Week 1 – Making time for God

time-for-God1John 1:2-4 & 10 – 13 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Jesus was God yet he came to our world that we may have access to his “world” he became one of us that we might become “like him”, he gave it all up, that we might “have it all”

Things to think about

If Jesus came to make a way for me to have free access to the father, how well am I doing in accessing the father? Though there is a free way to the father am I utilising that fully or have I found pleasure in something else? Are the cares, the stress, the pleasures or pressures or indeed the busyness of life shutting me out of his presence?

Things to do

Review your life and ask yourself; what can I give up in order to spend more quality time with the father? How about giving up a bit of telephone chitchat? What about Facebook, how about fasting that for 40days? Okay maybe 40 days is too much, how about fasting it for a week? For you it may be something else you need to fast for a while, a bit of TV, reducing your sleeping hours perhaps and using the time you gain to instead spend more time with the Lord. Whatever your decision, you must decide to detox your life and even declutter it that you might wisely use your day in seeking the Lord.

Suggested goals for this week

Set aside time regularly with God in the morning and in the evening too, just spend more time in meditating on his word and prayer

  •  Do not let anyone stop or interrupt your commitment
  • Let the people closest to you know what you are committing to
  •  If you have a daily devotional that you read regularly I encourage you to keep with that but to also read one chapter of the book of John each day
  • Consistently pray for someone outside of your family circle
  • Have an accountability partner to keep you on tract and to challenge each other
